Realme Narzo N53 Review: A Budget Phone with a Touch of Class

The Narzo N53 is the most recent inexpensive smartphone to be added to Realme's lineup in India. The new N-series, which includes this phone, strives to provide beautiful design and slick performance at a reasonable price. Some intriguing features of the Narzo N53 include a 90Hz display, a 50MP camera, and compatibility for 33W rapid charging. Is it, however, unique enough to stand out in the crowded budget segment? In this review, let's discover.

Display and Design

The Narzo N53's rear panel, which has a beautiful gradient finish and reflects various colours depending on the light's angle, is what immediately draws your attention to it. Feather Gold and Feather Black are the two available colour choices for the phone. We have the gold version, which is quite glitzy and alluring. The twin cameras and the LED flash are housed in three circular rings that are located on the rear panel's camera module, which also resembles the iPhone 14 Pro. With a 7.49mm thickness and a weight of 182g, the phone is likewise exceptionally thin and light. The slimmest phone Realme has ever produced, it does feel pleasant in the hand and to operate.

The phone's 6.74-inch IPS LCD screen on the front has a waterdrop notch for the selfie camera and an HD+ resolution. Because the display can sustain a 90Hz refresh rate, scrolling and animations run more smoothly than on typical 60Hz panels. Additionally, the display boasts respectable viewing angles, adequate brightness, and contrast levels. However, because of the low quality, the text and pictures have some pixelation and loss of crispness. Additionally, the display has large bezels, particularly at the bottom chin. Since the phone does not support Widevine L1 certification, HD material from Netflix or Amazon Prime Video cannot be streamed.

Software and Performance

The Unisoc T612 CPU, an octa-core chipset with two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, is what powers the Narzo N53. A Mali-G57 GPU is also included in the phone for graphics. Both a 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and a 6GB RAM with 128GB storage model are available for the phone. A microSD card may also be used to increase the storage space to 256GB.

For simple things like surfing, social networking, texting, and video streaming, the phone performs well. Although you may detect minor latency and stuttering when moving between programs or playing top-tier games, it suffers from intensive multitasking and gaming. When under duress, the phone also warms up fairly rapidly.

The phone's operating system is Android 13 with Realme UI T on top of it. With features like Mini Capsule, Dark Mode, Game Space, Smart Sidebar, and others, the UI is vibrant and adaptable. However, the UI also includes several bloatware programs and pre-installed applications, some of which cannot be removed or turned off. Additionally, many applications deliver intrusive alerts and adverts, which might negatively impact your user experience.

Battery and Camera

A 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 2MP macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture make up the dual-camera configuration on the rear of the Narzo N53. In the daytime, the main camera can produce passable images with acceptable colours and details. However, it often overprocesses the pictures and reduces the contrast and dynamic range. To get additional information, you may also utilize the 50MP option, although the quality isn't much affected.

The camera's low-light performance is not very spectacular, as seen by the noisy, grainy images that result. The absence of a separate night mode on the phone could have enhanced the outcomes.

Additionally, the macro camera is of little utility since the images it captures are fuzzy, dull, and devoid of focus and clarity.

The phone has an 8MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. In excellent lighting, it can capture passable selfies, but it also has a tendency to artificially smooth your skin.

The phone's video recording capabilities, which are limited to 1080p at 30 frames per second from both the rear and front cameras, are at best decent. There is no stabilization or any accessible special modes.

One of the phone's advantages is its long battery life; its 5000mAh battery easily lasts a day or more with moderate use. Additionally, the phone is capable of 33W rapid charging, which takes roughly 30 minutes to fully charge the battery.

Verdict

An inexpensive phone with an attempt to add a touch of luxury via its design and display is the Realme Narzo N53. The performance, software, and camera quality are all below par. The phone is appropriate for non-professional users who want a sleek, streamlined phone with a long battery life. However, you may want to seek elsewhere if you're searching for a more potent and adaptable phone. The Redmi Note 10, the Moto G40 Fusion, and the Poco M3  are a few choices you may want to take into account.
